If you work from home, you may be able to claim tax relief on additional household costs.


Flat Rate Method

Claim £6 per week (£312/year) without receipts:

  • Basic rate taxpayer: £62.40/year tax saving
  • Higher rate taxpayer: £124.80/year tax saving

Who Can Claim?

You can claim if your employer requires you to work from home and:

  • No office provided, OR
  • Your job requires home working

Cannot claim:

  • If you choose to work from home
  • For commuting costs you save

How to Claim

Employees:

  1. Via Self Assessment, OR
  2. HMRC online form (one-off adjustment)
  3. P87 form (if not registered for SA)

Actual Costs Method

If your actual costs are higher than £6/week:

  • Calculate proportion of bills for work
  • Keep receipts and records
  • Claim via Self Assessment
