How Shared Ownership Works
1. Buy a Share
Purchase between 25% and 75% of the property with a mortgage and deposit. The housing association owns the rest.
2. Pay Rent
Pay subsidised rent on the share you do not own, typically around 2.75% per year of the housing association is share.
3. Staircase
Buy additional shares over time (staircasing) until you own the property outright. Your rent reduces as your share increases.
